The Box Theater of Varieties is a theater and nightclub located in New York City's Lower East Side. It was opened in 2007 by Variety Worldwide and Simon Hammerstein, the grandson of American Lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, and is known for its provocative performances and celebrity clientele. The building that houses The Box was originally constructed in 1927 as a horse stable, and later became a cinema, a Yiddish theater, and a boxing venue before being converted into the variety theater and nightclub. Programming included the theater’s first ticketed immersive production, the nine year anniversary celebration and special events.
